01. An Introduction to Human Resource and Management

Human Resource
Human Resources (Borgenproject, 2022)

    Human Resources consists of finding, screening, recruiting, training job applicants, and most importantly administrating employee benefit programs (Kenton, 2022) and further describes that Human Resources (HR) is an essential component in any business regardless of its size and capacity. HR is tasked with maximizing employee productivity and protecting the organization from any issues that may arise from the workforce.

     Kenton (2022) published that the primary role of HR is focused on recruiting and retention of employees within a company along with overall five types of responsibilities;

  • Recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new employees.
  • Handling employee compensation and benefits.
  • Offering employee job/career development.
  • Addressing work-related issues of individual employees.
  • Developing policies that affect a working environment company-wide.

    Human Resource Management (HRM) can be described as the development and management of all employees within an organization and HRM is a necessity for an organization to cultivate positive employer-employee relationships (Betterteam, 2022).

Betterteam (2022) published that there are 5 areas to be focused on in HRM;

  • Staffing.
  • Development.
  • Compensation.
  • Health and Safety.
  • Labour Relations.
    The above areas can function to recruit/ talent acquisition, benefits administration, compensation management, employee/ labor relations, performance appraisal, compliance management, and training & development.

    HRM is now identified as People Operations Leader which shows how to manage people and organize in a change, change of focus, and purpose of the team rather than simply rebranding the HR functions. Also known for human capital management, talent management, and people operations (HRHelpBoard, 2022)

    Different eminent Scholars/ Authors had their own viewpoints on HRM and they have defined each based on their skills, research, and experiences (HRHelpBoard, 2022).

"Human resources are the energies, skills, talent, and knowledge of people, which are, or which potentially can or should be, applied to the production of goods or the rendering of useful services" (Harbison, F. cited in HRHelpBoard, 2022)

“HR as the total knowledge, skills, creative abilities, talents, and aptitudes of an organization's workforce, as well as the value, attitudes, and beliefs of the individuals involved” (Megginson, L. cited in HRHelpBoard, 2022)

    Most HR practices fall under five core areas named compensation, safety, labor relations, staffing, and employee legislation. The world is moving toward a digital-led era and the HR practices of an organization are highly employee-oriented by keeping employees satisfied and engaged at work expecting to maintain higher productivity and cultural behavior. Now, HRM needs to continuously following-up on employees and their performance, evolve strategies based on the analysis, and make effort to gain the fullest utilization of employee potential (HRHelpBoard, 2022).
